Back in 2000, with Oracle 8, if you wanted to install Oracle in a desktop, Windows was your choice as Linux was only beginning. Together with it came SQL*Plus for Windows.
More recently with Oracle 11g, SQL*Plus for Windows has been removed from the Windows installation (the DOS version remains).
For those like me that will want to use it a little bit longer, you can copy the sqlplusw.exe executable file from a 10.2 home and paste it in the BIN folder of the 11g home. There’s a catch: you’ll need to copy the oraclient11.dll in this same folder and paste it renamed as oraclient10.dll, which is the one sqlplusw.exe wants.
And that’s it. Now you can double-click it, create a shortcut, or if using Windows 7, pin it to the taskbar as I did 🙂 .
